The Story

The Efficiency Medal (EM) was instituted on 17 October 1930 and replaced several former long service awards including the Volunteer Long Service Medal, the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Medal, the Militia and Special Reserve Long Service Medals and the Territorial Efficiency Medal. The EM is awarded to warrant officers, NCOs and men of the volunteer Military Forces throughout the Commonwealth. Accelerated qualification was allowed for service during wartime.
