The VC for Australia was approved on 15 January 1991. It is identical to the British Award and still made by Hancocks in the UK.
As Australia's highest military honour it is awarded: for acts of the most conspicuous gallantry, pre-eminent acts of valour or self-sacrifice or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy.ย
Recipients are entitled to use the postnominals V.C.
The VC for Australia can be awarded more than once and this is represented by the wearing of a brass bar which is a copy of the suspender design and worn centred to the medal ribbon.ย ย
