The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was established by Security Council resolution 2100 on 25 April 2013 to support political processes and carry out security-related tasks in Mali. The mission was mandated to assist Mali's transitional authorities in stabilising the country and implementing the transitional roadmap.
With the unanimous adoption of resolution 2164 on 25 June 2014, the Security Council further directed MINUSMA to focus on key duties, including ensuring security, stabilisation, and protection of civilians; supporting national political dialogue and reconciliation efforts; and assisting with the re-establishment of State authority, rebuilding the security sector, and promoting and protecting human rights in Mali.
